Microsoft’s Shannon Loftis announced that Phantom Dust will be returning in 2017 to Xbox One and Windows 10! In an interview with Geoff Keighley she said, “This is actually the original brought into the modern era. In December Microsoft’s Phil Spencer replied to a number of Tweets regarding the state of Xbox One’s Phantom Dust, stating once again that the game had not been scrapped. Kotaku has published an in-depth article about the development of Phantom Dust for Xbox One, citing anonymous former Darkside Game Studios employees. According to these sources, serious discussions began in early 2014 about redoing Phantom Dust. The game had an early target release of August 2015. If the pictures of the Palace stage that surfaced last month weren’t enough, an anonymous source has revealed to Kotaku new early gameplay footage of the Phantom Dust reboot they had been working on. Back in September Adam Isgreen tweeted, “New Palace looks amazing.”, referring to the Palace stage of Phantom Dust. In a sad turn of events, Kotaku has revealed the studio behind the planned Phantom Dust reboot, Darkside Game Studios, closed its doors this afternoon. This in response to Microsoft ending their relationship with the studio. Microsoft has confirmed that development of the game will continue, but had no additional details at this time.
